"Magic
musical performance" (Berliner Morgenpost, 03/04)
Since two years
it now exists - the Venus Ensemble, an ensemble in which woman musicians
of the Berlin Philharmonic got together to open up their own rooms,
chances and opportunities, in a world in which men hold sway over chamber
music. The basic idea of the young ensemble is to create a forum for
small, but also variable composition of orchestral instrument players,
open to all female members of the Berlin Philharmonic.
The composition in the past ranged from violinduo to pianoquintet all
the way to stringoctet.
15 violinist, cellist and viola da braccio players, as well as different
guest musicians have in the meantime been able to find their public
attention through an ambitious blend of classical and contemporary music.
The repetoire of the ladies therefore includes different kinds of musical
compositions like for example, the Mendelssohn octet, Kodaly stringtrio,
Mozart duo for violins, Schostakowitsch pianoquintet as well as stringquartets
by Sofia Gubaidulina and the Fauré pianoquartet.
Future projects of the Venus Ensemble will include musical instruments
like the horn and the flute besides string instruments and piano, in
an effort to further fascinate their audience.
